EXTRACTING MEANING

I based my initial step on 'Wordmark' approach of logo design. I decided to use INNOVATION as my main focus. By deriving deveral qualities required to achieve innovation, I settled on Collaboration and Problem Solving as my key concepts.

BRAINSTORMING & SKETCHING

BRAINSTORMING + CONCEPT

With the primary goal of the logo set to depict teamwork and innovation, I began combining the elements depicting team, problem-solving, puzzles, bulb(commonly used to signify ideas) etc. with the word INNOVATION.  Eventually, I settled on my key concepts for symbolism.

SKETCHING

With primary concepts defined, I began my initial sketching process.

My focus was on symbols like puzzles, personnel in attempt to show unity, collaboration and problem solving in a single representation.

I also tried to integrate the words 'Summer Innovation Challenge' in the wordwork.

ITERATIONS + ELIMINATIONS

I provided the team with several variations, that we eventually decided to eliminate from consideration.

Following this, I removed combinations involving 'puzzle' and 'collaborations' from considerations as they didn't blend well in the wordwork. It challenged the balance of the logo. â€‹â€‹

Three of the designs were removed as EY's design policy does not allow use of their logo in any other project.
