OPENDOORS
This project was designed for a competition as a part of my module (User-Centric Design) when pursuing an MSc. in Human-Computer Interaction. I led a diverse team of 6 fellow students to complete this project. I performed the role of Use Researcher and UX/UI Designer.

THE GOAL
This project was a part of a module, User - Centric Design (UXD) at University College Dublin.
Guidelines: Provided by the ‘Student Design Competition’ (CHI ‘22, New Orleans, LA).
Theme: Gratitude.
MY TEAM & ROLE
I led a diverse team of 6 consisting of my fellow classmates experinced in Development, Design and Psychology, that helped us in gaining several perspectives. I functioned as a UX/UI Designer.
THE PROCESS
We began our process by exploring what the theme/word 'Gratitude' means to each team member. Then we discussed and eliminated ideas that contain user groups that would be difficult to reach.

Conceptualization
We began by assessing what Gratitude means to everyone and further assosciating it with a service that can be designed offered.
Also, to understand my team better, I assessed everyone's skill set and what they were willing to learn and contribute to the project.

Domain Selection
We eliminated several good ideas in favour of reaching the particular user groups via surveys in a very short time required to finish the module.
After eliminating some domain, we settled on Animal Welfare App, as we all were interested in that area of services and we would easily find user groups to respond to our survey as it was a key step in our projects.
Who is it For?
The application was aimed majorly towards animal lovers, pet owners, future pet owners and individuals interested in animal welfare. We prepared User Personas for two major user groups.

Data Collection
We chose survey as our research method. The survey was targeted mostly towards Pet Owners or Aspiring Pet Owners. We focused on finding out issues that people face 'During Pet Ownership' and 'Before Pet Ownership'.

Competitive Analysis
Although we had picked a service that is very common, the user research reseults and a short competitive analysis helped us reach a solution that other websites or applications did not have.

Tackling Issues
From our data collection and the competitive analysis, we found out that these user groups face their own set of issues. We took three broad issues in consideration.
Our competitive analysis revealed some gaps in the websites such as donation, caregiving and help for first time owners.
Confusion for First-Time Pet Owners
First time owners find it difficult to obtain all the right information that they need.
Two Many Things to Manage
Pet owners need to keep a track of several things during and after adoption.
Lack of Sitters and Lonely Pets
It is difficult for Experienced Pet Owners to find trust-worthy pet-sitters.
Solution
To counter the issues and gaps shown by our user research, we added several features to the app that would help users. Additionally, we added more features that aimed to enable animal welfare.
Report an Abandoned Animal
Users can report abandoned animal in their areas and can help with their welfare.
Donate Money or Spare Equipment
The app enables users to not only donate money for animals but also equipment.
Find and Chat with Caregivers
The app helps users find verified and trust-worthy caregivers .
Articles from Trusted Sources
App contains feature that embeds useful articles for First-time pet owners.
User Flow
We designed a simple user flow.

Wireframes
Most of our brainstorming sessions were facilitated by wireframes. We designed around 25+ wireframes before moving on to our final UI Design and Prototypes. We kept our layout simple and functional.

Hi-Fi Wireframes
Final Design
The UI design utilized a vibrant colour scheme. The UI consists of simple yet fun elements and look. I used pink and yellow to highlight the playfulness and joy that pets bring to their owners.
